With Gratitude You Reach New Heights

Im grateful for the friendships and partnerships that we have in the amazing jewelry industry I belong too. Recently KARATS was awarded as the # 1 Engagement Ring Store by The Knot Magazine and within weeks we received a fabulous honor from Vanna K Designer Brand.

We were bestowed with the # 1 performing Vanna K Dealer in Entire America for 2013. As I am reflecting on these honors I have to say that it cannot be done without the humble support of my family, friends, Karats Team Members, Customers, Vendors & Designers and each one of you that truly cares for us.

Each day I hope that I can exemplify Humbleness, A heart filled with Gratitude and Most Importantly Always Putting Others First. I keep in my heart the biblical quote from Matthew “The First Shall be The Last, The Last Shall Be The First And The Servant Amongst You Would Be The Greatest.” It is with the servant like attitude I hope to impact every life I touch.

I share with you the highest of honors that WE ( Entire KARATS Team ) received from Vanna K – http://blog.vannak.com/2014/01/a-beautiful-partnership-karats-jewelers.html

The value for Quality, Dependability and Peace of Mind

Every day we make choices and decisions based on price, quality, speed, comfort and other reasons that make us choose why we do business with one company over the other.

There is one thing for sure, the extra cost for quality, dependability and peace of mind will always trump the low cost commodity. In today’s time and era literally everything has become a commodity. From the dentist office to air travel to even food. Walmart has gained its popularity in the presumption and many times being the lowest price in many things. The jewelry industry is one of the highly commoditized businesses as well, I face every day on how we can differentiate ourselves , how and what sets us apart.

I share with you a recent experience when I flew Frontier to to Los Angeles on a business trip. Despite the fact that I took the earliest flight to California our flight was not only cancelled and we weren’t notified with no agent at the gate 10 min before boarding. Customer service at the check in counter was not even close to being courteous and the 1-800 number that I called to find a different flight kept me on hold for an hour and fifteen minutes with a recording that said my wait is 7 minutes every 10 minutes. Waiting patiently with zero to none customer service I rebooked my flight to California with Southwest on my iPhone app within minutes and arrived for my business convention right on time (talk about convienience). On my return flight from L.A. Frontier would charge me $1.95 for a small cup of soda or juice that is provided as service with others. It surely made me think of the important questions. What is the price for DEPENDABILITY, RELIABILITY AND PEACE OF MIND ? The hundred dollar difference between Southwest and Frontier caused more agitation and frustration than what it could have been if I choose the service of a company that keeps customer service , Quality, Dependability on the forefront.

So, the important question to ask and consider is when you need a company to deliver on a timely fashion, get you to your destination on time, or provide exceptional service and peace of mind who would you choose? More often than none it’s not going to be the Walmarts or the Frontiers of the world, but the slightly expensive company that provides a valuable and pleasurable experience at a marginal cost difference.

I know the difference of what DEPENDABILITY, RELIABILITY AND PEACE OF MIND looks like. I hope you do too with the many choices we all make everyday. There is a reason why Apple, Southwest, Starbucks, Zappos, Target, Chipotle, Quick Trip, Verragio & Tacori are the leading pioneers in their industry.

Here is a quick hint and a great way to choose a business that will always be ahead of the curve and will always deliver more than minimum: LOCAL, FAMILY OPERATED, PRIVATE ENTERPRISE, A COMPANY WHERE EMPLOYEES ARE PUT BEFORE CUSTOMERS (happy employees make happy customers) . These operations are hungry for success and value EACH AND EVERY CUSTOMER that comes their way. I speak for them as I am one of them. I know them and know how we value every soul that we touch.

Think again the little difference, the marginal cost of a Verragio or Tacori vs a Chain Store price on the look alike ring and think again who will deliver QUALITY, DEPENDIBILITY, RELIABILITY AND PEACE OF MIND.

I’m going back to sharpening our pencil on how to be exemplary and provide more than minimum. The best advice I ever got was “It’s all in the Extra Mile”

Greatness.

“I am in competition with no one. I run my own race. I have no desire to play the game of being better than anyone, in any way, shape, or form. I just aim to improve, to be better than I was before. That’s me…and I’m free.” ~Unknown
We all live once, what matters is what we do with our lives. What we do with seconds we have each day. Make a difference and leave this world better than what you found it as. That is living, That is revolutionary and that is epic.

Above & Beyond the call of Duty. Customer Service.

Reason #982 Why We Love What We Do at KARATS JEWELERS : Customer wanted to get an engagement ring and propose in the next couple weeks. He is a busy business executive and had no time to stop by the store besides today at 8:30 am, however we do not open till 10am everyday. Told him I would be happy to help him One on One and get him his dream ring for her. I was at the store at 7:30 am with a Starbucks getting ready for him and he showed up promptly at 8:30, found a ring he loved and thanked me for being here earlier than regular time. While he was ecstatic to find the PERFECT RING he said there was no one that would have done what we did for him by personally opening up the store before regular business hours since he called a couple places before someone recommended him to come to us. We made a LIFE LONG CUSTOMER at KARATS simply because we always go ABOVE & BEYOND the call of duty. When you love what you do it shows in everything you touch.

Reflection

True meaning of life is learning each day, each moment. I heard a saying once and it went something like this “Remarkable people make original mistakes. Learn to explore with a beginners mindset” I cherish this truly. It is not because I make mistakes but because I TRY, I LEARN and GROW as a person. In REFLECTION, life would be really unexplored and unchartered if we didn’t go out of our realms to be who we want to be.

As one of my mentors through inspiration Steve Jobs said. “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.” These words hold the ultimate truth to life. One must be hungry for knowledge and wisdom and the desire to learn and that ONLY comes when we acknowledge that we are foolish in every sense. Leaving pride and “I” away.

My Invocation to Leawood Rotary

On August 25th, 2011 I gave the following Invocation to the Rotary Club of Leawood that I belong too. A couple years down the road, I am remembering a great soul and an American Soldier who gave his life for our freedoms. Leawood Rotary Club is an Organization that gives its time, resources and efforts in making a difference in the world. I am a proud Leawood, KS Rotarian. Where we put Service Above Self.

INVOCATION:

They say that whatever we do comes with a price….a price for freedom, liberties and living our “dreams” is far higher than what we as individuals can EVER realize living where we live.

This nation has been built on principals of Service, Hard Work, Innovation and to stand for righteousness. Just the other day i was seeing a documentry of the days after september 11th when the United States went into Afghanistan, it really changed a lot of perspectives for me of how “this war against terrorism” was conducted as opposed to the many we have fought before.

I was amazed of how the United States only sent 7 men, yes ONLY 7 MEN from CIA to make pacts with the Northern Alliance Group that rebeled the Taliban before many other troops started coming in…..

Making a Long Story Short, it amazed me how the US conducted Drone wars against taliban and insurgents that came to our land and to our homes and tried to disrupt our way of life. Shortly after this documentry one morning i got a text message and it said “Brother Mason Died in Afghanistan”

I was taken back, i was quite and practically numb the entire day…. Matt Mason was my fraternity brother at Northwest Missouri State and was one of the 30 Navy Seals that was killed in Afghanistan and we as a country lost an honorable man, a great member of our community and he leaves behind 2 boys about the ages of 4 and 5 and an expecting daughter in the next month or so.

This man, gave his life for OUR FREEDOM, FOR OUR LIBERTIES and for our “DREAMS” that we living HERE cannot even begin to comprehend what it takes to fight those wars. That man was an honorable individual that fought for you and me amoung many others that have gone before and will continue to pay the BIGGEST PRICE for our FREEDOM.

Lets take a moment of silence and remember those that we know or those that have lost their lives so we all can live freely.

Thank You, I will be passing out a few things i got at matt’s services for you all to check out.

The greatest of joys is to create something bigger and better than you. To put your heart, soul and everything you have to see it grow. Just like how a mother raises a child. Our Businesses is our passion, its a dream and its made with immense emotions and we as Entrepreneurs put every single bit of what we have into it.

I am so blessed to be the 6th generation in the Jewelry Business and live a life filled with passion for what I do. My grandfather would have been so proud to see KARATS in Kansas City. He would have been filled with joy to see how is generations have uplifted the family name and legacy.

I aspire to do my best each day for my business, my family, my loved ones and my community.
